Since I cannot into Photoshop, I need some help with an artistic* lead image (unlike the one above) for an upcoming Aviation History post.

September 18 is the anniversary of the US Air Force becoming an independent branch of the US Military. I’d like to have some sort of montage of US Army Air Corps, US Army Air Forces, and US Air Force aircraft, fighters or bombers, maybe four or five total. Ideally, it would include something from different eras, perhaps a Curtiss Jenny, a P-40 or maybe a P-51 or some other WWII fighter or bomber, one of the Century Series fighters, or a B-52, and something current, like an F-16, F-15, or B-1. The image needs to be at an aspect ratio of 1.7:1, and sized down to 1000 x 588 pixels. Ideally, I would need to know the source of the photos you use, but it’s not critical. If they are USAF photos, then it doesn’t matter at all. But I can’t use images from Airliners.net or any other pro photographer, and would prefer historical images in context over modern shots of old planes.

All I can offer in return is a credit in the post, and the love, admiration and respect of all Planelops out there in Oppoland. I’ll need this by the morning of 9/18 at the latest. You can reach me at my name @ gmail, or drop them here.

Thanks!

*So far, your interpretation of “artistic” has been interesting.

I like your Aviation History posts so I’ll see what I can do. Any particular size?

Can I put a blackbird in it?

Whatever you want. As long as it’s USAF.

I guess it depends on what I can find better photos of.

Looks great on the phone! I'm going to collect the submissions (assuming I get a few) and post them on the 18th. Thanks!

There's tons out there. Wiki is a great place to start. Also AF.mil.

I can’t photoshop, but I want to thank you for your posts, I really look forward to them. They’re all really well done and super informative. If you compiled them, you could even do some kind of book/calendar thing. Either way, you rock!

Here’s my humble submission. I actually just took a Photoshop course for work (Lynda.com FTW) so I thought I’d try this if for nothing else than to see what I can do. I have no illusions as to my artistic ability, so feel free to tell me that it sucks!

EDIT: All photos are from the Wiki pages for each aircraft ( Jenny , P-51 , F-105 , F-16 ).

I also like how the prop on the Jenny blends in with the prop on the Mustang. And I like the choice of the Thud. It’s one of my favorites.

Thanks for the kind words. It takes a lot more time to put these posts together than I should be spending on them, but it’s turned into a great hobby and a great way to combine my interests of aviation and history. I have kept all of the posts saved off of kinja, and I’m still trying to decide what to do with them. At the very least, I should make my own website, but I have no experience with that, and have no idea how I want to make it look. I also don’t have the time to fiddle with it! But I’ll get there someday. Thanks again, and thanks for reading.
